Mike Penning MP
Mike is the Member of Parliament for Hemel Hempstead, having won the seat in the 2005 election. He is in his forties, happily married to Angie and has two teenage daughters.
Mike grew up in North London and Essex and left school at the earliest opportunity and became a boy-soldier and then a Grenadier Guardsman, where he saw active service in many arenas. He then went on to be a fire fighter in Essex and would probably still be in this role were it not for the fact that he injured his back. Not knowing what to do Mike sought advice from his MP, Sir Teddy Taylor, took him under his wing and persuaded him to attend university as a mature student.
After a few years at Reading University he worked as a journalist and then began my political career working with Sir Teddy, William Hague and Iain Duncan Smith. Mike is very down to earth
His goal is to be a hardworking and effective constituency MP and to serve the people of Hemel Hempstead. He currently serves on the Joint Party War Graves Committee, the All Party Gibraltar Committee and is a member of the Health Select Committee. When he can, he spends time with my family, enjoys sport, particularly rugby and football, and just loves going to rock concerts.
